If it can be said of an event that it has put the city that hosts it on the map, that event is Street League Skateboarding.
Badalona has been able to take advantage of the pull of its neighbour as the Mecca of skateboarding to attract the sport’s most prestigious competition. Since 2015, Street League has passed through Skate Agora BDN, the first skatepark in Spain to be approved for official competitions. The production of the event, along with the concept and management of Skate Agora, is the work of Lateral Thinking.
Street League, which, for one weekend, takes up residence in Badalona, includes the Nike SB European Series - something like the Champions League of skateboarding - and the Nike SB Pro Open, part of the SLS World Tour circuit, which later moves on to cities such as Munich, New Jersey and Los Angeles.
With nearly 5,000 lively spectators present and broadcast by television networks such as Fox Sports, Street League is a sporting event with global reach, which has situated Badalona among the elite of a sport which, at Tokyo 2020, will be an Olympic sport for the first time.
